What is the Convert Image tool?

Convert Image re-encodes a picture into a different format — JPEG for small photos, PNG for crisp graphics with transparency, or WebP for the best of both. It's the no-fuss way to satisfy an upload form that won't accept your file's current format, or to slim down a heavy PNG by switching it to WebP.

Each format has a sweet spot: JPEG is unbeatable for photos, PNG is best for screenshots and logos with sharp edges, and WebP usually wins on file size at equivalent quality. We let you pick whichever suits the destination.

How to convert an image to a different format

  1. Drop your image (or several) onto the page — JPG, PNG and WebP are all accepted as inputs.
  2. Pick the output format — JPEG, PNG or WebP — from the options panel.
  3. Click 'Convert & download' to receive the re-encoded image.

Why use our Convert Image tool?

  • Bidirectional: convert in any direction between JPG, PNG and WebP.
  • Batch mode re-encodes a folder of images at once and packages them as a ZIP.
  • Transparent backgrounds in PNG/WebP are flattened to white only when converting to JPEG (which doesn't support transparency).
  • Files are processed in-memory and discarded immediately after conversion.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which format should I pick?

Photos → JPEG or WebP. Screenshots, logos and anything with sharp edges or transparency → PNG or WebP. WebP is the modern all-rounder.

Will I lose quality?

Converting to PNG is lossless. Converting to JPEG or WebP uses lossy compression at a sensible default quality — visually identical for most images.

What about HEIC, TIFF or AVIF?

Use our Images to PDF or Combine to PDF tools, which accept HEIC, TIFF and AVIF as inputs.
