What is the Compress Image tool?

Compress Image makes JPG, PNG and WebP files smaller so they upload faster, attach to emails without bouncing, and load quickly on the web. We use the format's own lossy compression at a level that's nearly invisible to the eye but cuts file size dramatically.

It's especially useful for photos straight from a phone (which can easily exceed 5 MB each), screenshots saved as bloated PNGs, and product images destined for a website where every kilobyte counts.

How to compress an image

  1. Drop one or more images onto the page — JPG, PNG and WebP are supported.
  2. Adjust the quality slider in the options panel if you want a tighter or looser compression. The default is a good balance.
  3. Click 'Convert & download' to get the compressed file, with the before/after size shown on the success screen.

Why use our Compress Image tool?

  • Significant size reduction with minimal visible quality loss.
  • Adjustable quality so you can pick the trade-off that suits your use case.
  • Batch mode compresses every image you upload and packages the results as a ZIP.
  • Reports the percentage saved so you can confirm the compression worked.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will the image look noticeably worse?

At default quality, no. Side-by-side comparison is usually needed to spot the difference, while the file is often half the original size.

Does it work on PNGs?

Yes. PNG-to-PNG compression is lossless re-packing; for a bigger size drop, convert the PNG to WebP using our Convert Image tool.

My image didn't shrink much. Why?

Some images are already heavily compressed. You can pick a lower quality setting for more aggressive compression, or convert to WebP for typically smaller output.
